STRANDED

Lexi, a gentle 28 year old child psychologist, joins her uber-wealthy friends on a trip to the desert to celebrate her ex’s birthday. As soon as they arrive at their BNB Vacation Rental Home, things turn bad. Their car keys are missing, town is 40 miles away, and they have no means to communicate with the outside world. Then desert locals start terrorizing them. But when they come in for the kill, suddenly they start laughing. It was all an elaborate prank set up by one of the rich guests. Conflict arises between the groups and it turns into a vicious game of survival. For Lexi to make it out alive, she must overcome the demons of her past.

STRANDED has the raw intensity of DELIVERANCE and has many twists like GET OUT. Where Jordan Peele's film took on racism, STRANDED explores class inequality by throwing us into a battle to the death between the poor and the ultra rich.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The titles says it. STRANDED’s plot has been proven to be successful over and over again through the years, and by twisting it on its head, we take the audience to a whole new terrifying ride.

Women make up more than half the audience who watch thrillers and horror. STRANDED is made to serve this under represented audience, and introduce Lexi, a new kind of woman hero who uses her eyes, mind and “soft power, ” to survive instead of “hard power,” which is what a man would do. She also suffers from anxiety, like 1/5th of the people in our country.

Thrillers and horror are in demand, and STRANDED’s visual story will translate well around the world. This is a modestly priced film which keeps the downside low, but still has all the potential to break through and be a hit. GET OUT cost $5 million and returned over $255 million at the box office.  With sequels already in mind, STRANDED can become a lucrative franchise.

In 2017, GET OUT received 3 Academy Award Nominations and one win. And with the right cast, and a great team, STRANDED has the potential to receive a lot of critical recognition.

90% of STRANDED will be shot on the director's exclusive 100 acre ranch in Joshua Tree, California.  Not only are there clear budgetary advantages, but the isolated desert location taps into the universal fear of being trapped in an extreme environment.

CAST

STRANDED will feature a diverse cast of talented actors, with five smart and sexy late 20’s, early 30’s parts, and an A-list actress (40-70 years old) as the main antagonist, Charlene. She is a complex, multilayered villain. Is she is a good woman forced to do horrible things, or is she a bad person insider.  Hollywood does not typically write feature roles for women in this age group, so we believe we can attract a truly great actress.

“STRANDED” A STORY OF SURVIVAL

REVIEWS of films DIRECTED BY MATTHEW PATRICK that have similar themes, and stylistic qualities to STRANDED.

TAINTED BLOOD "This neat little thriller directed by Matthew Patrick makes a valiant effort to conceal the killer’s identity and keep the level of interest high as one revelation after another sets the pendulum swinging between suspects.” CINEFANTASTIQUE

ATRAPADOS (Trapped) “Is a staggering and haunting film, directed by Matthew Patrick.” LOS ANGELES TIMES

ATRAPADOS (Trapped) "A real hybrid - an apocalyptic, science-fantasy. For an independent film, this is not only astoundingly original, but extremely well made, and so strange it's got to be believable. Colorful, mysterious and unlike anything you've ever seen." CITY PAGES

HIDER IN THE HOUSE  “Is a tense psychological suspense film which cannily explores family politics with sour wit and distinctly macabre conclusions.   TIME OUT

HIDER IN THE HOUSE   “Patrick resists the clichéd mannerisms and overt violence of the contemporary horror movie in favor of uneasy intimacy, diffuse lighting and intelligent characterization.  Worth looking out for."   THE GUARDIAN

HIDER IN THE HOUSE  "Director Matthew Patrick shares Hitchcock's preference for the power of suspense over surprise: what grips an audience most is not knowing what's going to happen but how and when." SUNDAY TRIBUNE

HIDER IN THE HOUSE   “Solid performances, intriguing plot and an interesting play on the 'villain or victim?' theme make director Matthew Patrick's film a delight trimmed with cunning and terror."   FILM MONTHLY
